Vermont IPM: Integrated Pest Management for Vermont
“The Transdisciplinary Vermont Extension IPM Program Addressing Stakeholder Priorities and Needs for 2013”

The coordinated, interdisciplinary Vermont IPM program addresses essential IPM needs as identified by stakeholders in the state as well as advances the goals of the National IPM Roadmap to continue to build sustainable pest management systems that reduce the potential risks to human health and the environment.

To meet the IPM needs of Vermont stakeholders, the 2013 VT EIPM Program focused efforts in the following Program Emphasis Areas: IPM for agronomic crops; IPM for specialty crops including apples (including organic), cold climate grapes, greenhouse, landscape; IPM implementation in communities; and IPM support for plant diagnostic facilities.

  • These areas are closely integrated with a research base and are extremely well matched with the expertise at the University of Vermont.
  • Educational and information delivery methods are diverse and include workshops, training sessions, fact sheets, newsletters, blogs, websites, webinars, television programs, video clips, demonstrations, and one-to-one education.
  • Each area involves extensive collaborative efforts both within the state and within the region to optimize resources and expertise and to develop the most effective IPM programs possible..

Vermont is a very rural state; agriculture is crucial to the vitality of its rural communities. The Vermont IPM program is critical as the foundation that will allow Vermont to continue to address the important local, state and National IPM goals of agricultural profitability and sustainability while reducing the health and environmental risks associated with agricultural production.
