Tour Destinations
The King’s Garden, Fort Ticonderoga
http://www.fort-ticonderoga.org/king's_garden.htm
An historic garden designed by Marian Cruger Coffin in 1920, along the shore of Lake Champlain on the grounds of Fort Ticonderoga. The garden was recently restored and officially opened to the public in 2001. Get a sneak peek at the Garden while it is just waking up for the season.
Longwood Gardens
http://www.longwoodgardens.org
The premier display garden in the world. Longwood contains 20 outdoor gardens, 20 indoor gardens under 4 acres of glasshouses. May is the peak of the tulip bloom—80,000 bulbs--along the 600 ft. flower garden walk. Pierce’s Woods, a unique woodland display garden is also peaking in May, and the entire 300 acres offer delights and surprises at any time of year.
Winterthur, An American Country Estate
Beautiful at any time of year, but at its peak in spring. In May, the 8 acre Azalea Woods of Winterthur will be the height of bloom. Other areas of the garden will be filled with dogwoods, spring beauties, Virginia bluebells, spirea, winterhazel, lilacs and more. A garden tram takes visitors on a guided tour, and the whole garden is open for strolls. Your admission also includes the Museum galleries.
Mt. Cuba Center for the Piedmont Flora
The former estate of Mrs. Lammot duPont Copeland, Mt.Cuba is now a center for study and education about the Piedmont Flora. The largest display of wild flowers cultivated in the Mid-Atlantic region is a gorgeous walk in the spring. This is a two hour tour of continuous walking. A special treat, as the garden is open to the public on a limited basis in April and May by tour only.
The Brandywine River Museum and Brandywine Conservancy
http://www.brandywinemuseum.org/
Situated in a 19th century grist mill along the Brandywine River, the River Museum is home to the largest collection of three generations of Wyeth paintings, American illustrations and Landscapes. The museum is surrounded by wildflower and sculpture gardens. Be among the first visitors to the new section of museum opening in April.
Gibraltar Gardens
