Hardiness

A plant is said to be hardy if both:

• It has the genetic potential for cold

• It has experienced the proper environmental cues= acclimation

  • a complex process, occurs in fall
  • from exposure to low, non-freezing temperatures
  • can be reversed with short, warm periods
  • one stage vs. two for woody perennials
