Conserves moisture, prevents soil crusting (clay), weed control (?), organic matter

• types: organic best

  • bark (smaller chips or double ground, generally softwood), compost, cocoa hulls

• depth: 2 inches, keep off plants

  • especially off spreaders (yarrow, bee balm)
  • minimal weed control
