John Bartram was one of America's earliest and most famous plant explorers, introducing many plants from America to the Old World, and new plants here from his friends in Europe. His gardens and nursery were the earliest in this country. His historic gardens under restoration are on the banks of the Schuylkill river in sight of downtown Philadelphia, are open to the public, and worth a visit even though a challenge to find.. https://www.bartramsgarden.org/
