Perry's Perennial Pages

Garden of the Month,  August 2001

Montreal Mosaicultures

Mosaicultures are sculptures made of a framework and covered with small living plants.  These differ from topiaries, in that the latter are plants trained into various shapes, with or without an underlying frame.  This is the second year of this unique international exhibit in Montreal, Quebec, Canada.  For more on the first year of this competition, and on this garden artform, see the July 2000 Garden of the Month.  For more on this exhibit, hours, and location, see the MIM2001 website.  While the first year emphasized gardens of various countries, this year the provinces of Canada are featured.  About 2/3 of the exhibits are new this year from last.  The theme this year is "The Magician's Garden."  For a quick overview, check out the Slide Show.
